Add Luxury to Your Bathroom with a Towel Warmer

You don’t need to be a guest in a five-star luxury hotel to enjoy the simple pleasure of a warm bath towel. Towel warmers are becoming a mainstream must-have in bathrooms where cold climates make stepping out of the shower an unpleasant experience. Many homeowners, however, have discovered that electric towel warmers can be used in more than just the bathroom. These units can be equally helpful in laundry rooms, mudrooms, and bedrooms, where they remove moisture from damp garments, warm robes and clothing, and reduce ambient humidity that can lead to mildew.

Homeowners will have more than one decision to make when it comes to selecting the right towel warmer for their use. That’s because towel warming racks come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and finishes that can be matched with any style preference or décor. An important first decision will be if you want the warmer to be hardwired or one you simply plug in to an existing outlet. The plug-in type is easy to use, and, if the warmer is a free-standing floor unit, can be unplugged when not in use or moved to a different room for use elsewhere. On the other hand, hardwired warmers, which are all wall-mounted, provide a cleaner look, as there are no cords or wires showing.

Towel warmers heat quickly and evenly, and most heat up to between 100°F and 140°F. They generally reach their maximum/optimum surface temperature in about 15 to 20 minutes. Most models come with an on-off switch and a timer that can be set to turn off after a period of designated hours – usually 2, 4, or 6 – and a temperature sensor to avoid overheating.

In terms of size, towel warmers come in a size that is right for just about any space. They can range in width from about 17 inches to 30 inches, in height from about 19 inches to over 49 inches, and in depth from approximately 4 to 10 inches. The number of towel bars varies as well. Some have as few as 4 that may be widely spaced; many models have 8 to 10; and large warmers have 20 or more. The electric wattage also varies, and can be as low as 35 Watts or as high as 250 Watts for the largest models.

You can purchase a towel warmer in a finish that matches your décor. Finishes include polished stainless steel, brushed stainless steel, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, and gold. Quality towel warming racks come with full installation instructions and safety advisements to ensure the product is used as intended and does not overheat or cause damage to walls or surrounding areas. The cost to operate a towel warmer depends on the wattage level of your warmer and your cost of electricity.
